چکیده

Virtual world metaphors are becoming increasingly popular as a basis for collaborative systems (i.e. Groupware and Computer Supported Cooperative Work). This paper describes how such metaphors might be extended to support communication on a large scale through the introduction of a spatial model for meditating interaction in virtual computer spaces. Key concepts from the model are introduced and are then defined in terms of an abstract mathematical framework. The paper then outlines how this framework might be applied to a diverse range of technologies. As a next step, the combination of rooms into larger virtual structures is considered resulting in proposals for structuring, navigating and mapping a large virtual cyberspace for cooperation. Finally, the paper describes the current CyCo prototype at Nottingham.

Spatial Navigation in Virtual World

Absract One of the most challenging and complex tasks when working with virtual worlds is the navigation process. This chapter presents the possibilities of using neural networks as a tool for studying spatial navigation within virtual worlds. VRML : From the Web to Interactive Multi - User Virtual Reality

1 Abstract VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) has already established itself as a standard for the exchange of 3D descriptions on the Internet. However, it is a completely static description, with no support for virtual worlds with several users and applications, or with a high number of dynamic objects. In this paper we want to examine how VRML can be extended to fit the requirements of ...
